President Biden is now facing demands for a Congressional investigation revolving on the decision to drone bomb a vehicle in Kabul that resulted in the death of a U.S. Aid worker and members of his family. The August 29 attack killed seven children and was obviously based on false intelligence.
Leading the charge to demand that Biden get investigated for the war crime is none other than Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), infamous for his hand in the first impeachment of former President Donald Trump.
“We must take every precaution when it comes to protecting civilian lives, and hold ourselves accountable when we fail,” Schiff said in a statement. “While there is no overstating the chaotic and dangerous situation in Kabul following the fall of the Afghan government and the attack on our forces by ISIS-K, it is clear that the August 29 strike was a mistake with horrific consequences.”
“In acknowledging that error, the Department of Defense has taken the first step towards transparency and accountability. And after such a devastating failure – one that, by the Department’s estimate, killed 10 civilians, at least 7 of them children – it cannot be the last step,” he continued. “We need to know what went wrong in the hours and minutes leading up to the strike to prevent similar tragedies in the future.”
“I am also concerned about the accuracy and completeness of public statements made in the immediate aftermath of the strike, and whether those accounted for all of the information possessed by the government at the time,” he continued. “We must assure that the Department examines its actions carefully and objectively, even in the absence of press reports, such as here, which brought this critical mistake to light.”
“This is an area deserving of additional oversight, and along with my colleagues in Congress, the House Intelligence Committee will continue to press for answers,” Schiff added. “My prayers today are with the victims and their families.”
Earlier, the Biden administration, at the behest of the Pentagon, claimed to have killed two “high profile” ISIS-K terrorists.
“The U.S. military drone strike in Afghanistan killed two ‘high profile’ Islamic State militants, Pentagon officials said… [it is] the first retaliatory action following an attack at the Kabul airport that killed 13 American service members and at least 170 other people,” the Washington Post reported at the time.
“The second U.S. strike on an Islamic State target in the aftermath of last week’s suicide bombing at the airport, which killed the troops and at least 170 others, comes as evacuation efforts are winding to a close,” the Post added.
The August 29 drone strike that purportedly disrupted an ISIS-K attack on Kabul airport actually killed a U.S. aid worker named Zemari Ahmadi. However, a Pentagon source confirmed exclusively to Becker News that the intelligence sources the military acted upon trace back to an unreliable tip from the Taliban.
The Congressional authorization necessary to carry out the drone strike was actually circumvented due to reports that it was “imminent,” and the intelligence was falsely passed off as ‘U.S. based,’ Pentagon sources told Becker News. On the Sunday of the attack, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) told Fox News that the Predator drone strike actually came from the United Arab Emirates, and took anywhere between “six to eight hours.” If Bagram Air Base had been maintained, he said, a drone strike could have gotten to the target “within minutes.”
On Friday, CNN’s Jake Tapper excoriated the Pentagon for misleading the American public about the attack.
“This is a total about-face from the Pentagon’s initial denial they got anything wrong days after the attack,” Tapper said. He showed video of Gen. Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, saying on September 1 this was “a righteous strike.”
“No longer so righteous,” Tapper remarked.
When CNN and the Democratic Party have turned on a Democratic president and his administration, it is pretty much finished. The Biden “free fall” is unlikely to end anytime soon.
