The Winner of the HK Prize 2024

A winner of Hong Kong Prize takes home an impressive sum. The top prize is worth HK$2 Million while runners-up receive one million each. Winners may opt to receive their money as either an outright lump sum payment or in annual installments over 12 years; tax deductions may also apply. HK Prize lottery is administered by Hong Kong Jockey Club and often used to fund charity causes.

On May 17 at a gala dinner at Hong Kong’s Four Seasons hotel, Pakistani artist Sameen Agha won the 2024 Sovereign Asian Art Prize with her red marble structure A Home is a Terrible Place to Love – created to raise funds for Make It Better Charity program that provides expressive arts workshops to children from underserved communities in Hong Kong.

On Wednesday evening, South China Morning Post won twelve prizes at the Hong Kong Press Society News Awards 2024. Senior reporter Edith Lin and news editor Jeffie Lam from City Desk team won Best Scoop for reporting illegal structures added to luxury properties; these journalists were joined by colleagues Kahon Chan, Natalie Wong, and Lilian Cheng as winners.

On Sunday night, the Hong Kong Film Awards marked their 43rd anniversary by honoring Kung Fu blockbuster Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In with Best Film award while Sean Lau Ching-wan and Michelle Wai Sze-nga won acting prizes from among 13 professional film bodies in Hong Kong. HKFA is managed by an eleven-member board of directors which represent various professional film bodies within Hong Kong.

Vivian Kong was awarded an Olympic gold medal for women’s individual epee fencing while swimmer Siobhan Haughey earned two bronze medals (200m freestyle and 100m freestyle). As part of their performance they are eligible to receive bonuses totalling approximately HK$9 Million under the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Award scheme.

This year’s Hong Kong Science and Technology Award features the Future Science Prize as a new category to recognize excellence in research in three disciplines – life sciences, physical sciences and mathematics and computer science. Yam Wing-wah of the Hong Kong Academy of Science explained that this prize seeks to inspire young scientists.

Hong Kong Golf Club hosted the eighth of Asian Tour’s elevated International Series events, where Reserve Ben Campbell claimed his inaugural Asian Tour title with an one-shot win over Ripper GC captain Cameron Smith to collect his prize of $360,000 and $220,000 respectively for being runner-up. It marked eight consecutive times that this tournament has taken place there with total prize pool exceeding $2m being offered!
