On 9 July 1977, former Governor Sir Murray MacLehose officially inaugurated the first pool complex in Southern District and named it after Yue-Kong Pao who donated funds towards this endeavor. Subsequently, The Hong Kong Jockey Club funded another pool complex in Sha Tin District named for themselves which also bears their name.
