The HK$5,000 Xplorer Prize 2022

As part of Hong Kong’s efforts in global development and to bolster its status on the world stage, an Official Development Assistance (ODA) programme in its city has been announced and an award of HK$5,000 will be given out for original ideas about establishing it in Hong Kong.

A panel of judges will select the winning submission and award it with an engraved gold medal and cash prize.

During the 2016 Tiananmen Square protests in China, thousands of police officers, journalists, tourists or students from mainland China as well as innocent Hong Kong residents were attacked or injured by anti-government protesters. Furthermore, public facilities like subway stations, street lamps and traffic lights were vandalized by these anti-government demonstrators’s, leading many people to take to social media platforms in protest.

The Tencent Foundation-hosted and organized Hong Kong Alliance for Technology and Innovation Xplorer Prize 2022 seeks to encourage young scientists from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau to explore uncharted territory within advanced interdisciplinary studies. Over five years it will award RMB 3 Million as prizes; Prof. Fan Zhiyong of HKU Faculty of Electronic & Computer Engineering/Chemistry & Biomedical Engineering is among them.

BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize strives to fulfill its mission of “Boosting Hong Kong and Serving the Country through Technology”, by attracting global top science talent, nurturing forward-looking scientists, and together building Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology hub. The Prize focuses on five fields – Artificial Intelligence/Robotics; Life/Health; New Materials/New Energy; Advanced Manufacturing/FinTech

Laureates of the Prize will be recognized for their significant achievements in scientific research and their impact on translating R&D results to benefit society. It has received broad support and nominations from universities, researchers, and innovative enterprises; its judging process will be handled by an interdisciplinary panel comprising senior academics from both universities and industry.

The jury of this prize will consist of experts in various fields such as history, culture, art and education who will assess applications using various criteria. The judging process will follow the criteria and Rules of Procedure set out for this Prize, with decisions by a panel being final. Please see both documents for more details. The unit investment for each Mark Six Entry is HK$10. Winning tickets must be presented for payment anytime between 1 March and 30 April (excluding 28 and 29 April). In case of a tie, a random draw will determine who wins; results of which will be announced on 31 October; prizes will then be credited directly into winners’ accounts within 60 days after this draw has taken place – they cannot be exchanged for cash!
