The Hong Kong Prize for Science and Technology

The Hong Kong Film Awards is one of the city’s premier annual events, honoring filmmakers, actors and film education. Organized by the Hong Kong Film Critics Society – an educational non-profit dedicated to Hong Kong cinema both locally and abroad – each year at this ceremony the Hong Kong Film Critics Society awards 10 prizes across various categories for winners who will go on to receive an honorarium award of HK$25,000 (US$3,200).

BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize provides an important incentive for scientific researchers to expand their fields of interest and make greater contributions to society. Driven by its mission “Boosting Hong Kong and Serving the Country through Technology”, this Prize promotes its vision of attracting top global scientists, training talented young researchers, and creating Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology hub.

Finalists of this competition will not only receive a prize money of HK$100,000. But in addition, they will receive business mentoring and assistance from some of Hong Kong’s premier research institutes and industry players, along with opportunities to join global high-tech networks and meet potential investors.

The Prize covers an expansive spectrum of topics, including artificial intelligence and robotics, life and health sciences, advanced manufacturing and FinTech. Individuals or teams from Hong Kong, Macau or mainland can apply; the selection process requires rigorous review and evaluation processes.

It is expected that the Prize will not only contribute to Hong Kong’s scientific and technological environment, but will also garner greater international attention. To further improve it, The Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation plans on increasing accessibility to this Award by creating an award program with more diverse award recipients; expanding scope and depth; strengthening promotion efforts further; as well as making the Prize more readily accessible to scientists worldwide.

Apart from major category awards, this Competition features several additional trophies: Best Original Screenplay and Special Jury’s Recognition are just two. In the final ceremony screening event for shortlisted works screened and their authors interviewed by members of the jury.

The Hong Kong Prize recognizes and rewards Hong Kong’s unsung heroes by honoring their genuine spirit of charity, civic awareness, acts of self-sacrifice and tenacious entrepreneurialism. Their stories will then be featured on South China Morning Post pages to inspire others.
