Top Prizes and Awards for CUHK Students

As a leading research hub, the University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is always on the lookout for talented new members to join its academic community. There are various prestigious prizes and awards offered to CUHK students; we have highlighted some of these below.

Generocity’s annual HK Prize competition provides an exciting platform to gather creative and innovative ideas on how Hong Kong could establish an Official Development Assistance programme as part of its global role. Over 120 entries came in from across the world; winning team will receive a cash award of HK$100,000. They’ll also have the opportunity to present their idea before an esteemed panel of judges from different fields.

Lam Tai Fai College alumni comprise five of the top 10 winners, including three gold medalists Joshua Wong, Gwyneth Ho, and Jimmy Lai. In addition to prize money they will each be receiving scholarships worth HK$3 Million under their Outstanding Athletes Incentive Awards Scheme scholarship award scheme.

At last year’s Gramophone Classical Music Awards in London, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra won Orchestra of the Year – considered “Oscars of classical music”. They were chosen due to live recordings conducted by Jaap van Zweden of Wagner’s Ring Cycle as recorded by Naxos that “inspiringly demonstrated how an ensemble led by an incredible Music Director can perform at its highest levels”.

Nine US lawmakers from both parties nominated five Hongkongers for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, hailing their efforts at protecting freedoms in Hong Kong and promoting democracy as campaigners who should receive international recognition as sources of inspiration for others around the globe.

The Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Prize was created to honour scientists and research teams from Hong Kong or Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for their outstanding scientific accomplishments and transformation of mankind’s understanding of nature. It is the only merit-based award offered in Hong Kong dedicated to rewarding individuals committed to making valuable contributions towards humanity.

Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited sponsors the HK Science and Technology Innovation Prize with the intention of encouraging Hong Kong’s development as an international scientific and technology innovation centre. To accomplish this objective, their review process follows a Charter that seeks to ensure scientific management while still remaining objective during assessment.
